I am the Zoning Enforcement Officer and Building Inspector for the Town of
Alexander.
I can be contacted at (585) 547-3879, usually between the hours of 6 –
8 p.m.
If you have any questions, please give me a call.
I do not take or answer calls on Sundays.
There are 2 permits necessary for every project:
A Zoning Permit is required for every project including farming
and non-farming projects. Zoning deals with the placement of the project and
the use of the project on a legal lot.
A Building Permit deals with the construction of the project and the specific use that was applied for and approved. The Town of Alexander follows the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention Building Code.
Always Plan Ahead. Call me if you have questions regarding a project to see what permits will be needed before you start in. The Town of Alexander charges triple the fee if a project is started without a permit.
It is the responsibility of the permit holder to make all calls for permits and inspections. I require 24 hour advance notice for all inspections. No exceptions.
Inspections are performed at the following stages of construction:
Footer
Foundation
Rough framing
Rough plumbing
Insulation
Electrical (done by 3rd party)
Final
In order to be issued a Certificate of Occupancy, you must have the Final Electrical Certificate and Certificate from the Genesee County Health Department (if needed) for septic system. No C of O will be issued without them.
The permit process doesn’t happen overnight. There is a minimum of 7 – 10 business days after receipt of an application before you will receive the permit. So plan ahead. Call with any questions or clarifications as to what paperwork your project will need so as not to delay your project.
The Building Permit/Zoning Permit applications are available at the Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours, or on our website as a pdf file to be printed off.
